Google Certification

Unit 1

  • This unit talks about the impact of technology on teaching.

  • It gives several responses from other educators about how technology has impacted their teaching career.

  • It lists several interactive activities for us to set goals for the future.

Unit 2

  • This unit shows us how to find answers using Google Search or Google Help Center when we have questions

  • It gives us 2 scenarios to help us decipher where the people in the scenarios need to look first.

  • It gives you an interactive activity to plan your own strategy

Unit 3

  • This unit talks about Cloud Storage, how to use it, Google Drive, and how to use that as well.

  • The cloud storage servers that host our information have back-up systems and security measures in place to keep our data safe and available.

  • It also gives us the opportunity to see what other educators had to say concerning the topic of Cloud Storage and Google Drive.

Unit 4

  • Unit 4 is all about using Gmail to communicate with your classroom community.

  •  This teaches us how it can benefit your classroom’s lines of communication with its flexibility to compose, organize, and respond to messages from any device.

  •  Gmail encourages and enables you to communicate with any community member, regardless of the language they speak, through the easy to use translation feature.

Unit 5

  • Unit 5 talks all about using Google Calendars to keep track of your schedules and appointments.

  • It asks you to practice creating a classroom Google calendar, an event, sharing a calendar with others, and setting customized reminders.

  • It encourages us to become more organized, which helps us create a better classroom environment.

Unit 6

  • Unit 6 is all about making in-person meetings more effective. It encourages us to start with Google calendar to make our meetings effective.

  • We are asked to think about our responses to 3 or 4 questions about what we liked about meetings that we've attended and how we think they could be improved.

  • Towards the end of the section, it talks about putting our ideas into actions. We can learn how to have better meetings, be more efficient, and get more organized.

Unit 7

  • This unit explains how we can use Google Classroom to better organize our classroom. It also describes the different ways we can assign work easily and the effortless collection of assignments through Google Classroom.

  • The second section talks all about the ways we can assign work easily. It gives us several different examples of ways we can assign these assignments digitally.

  • It helps us figure out how to collect assignments easily and leave feedback on their assignments. It is incredibly important for us to give our students feedback so that they can see how to fix and improve their work.

Unit 8

  • One of the most basic, universal goals of teaching is to help our students grow and become better learners. We routinely collect information from students, parents, and even other teachers to show this growth.

  • We must be careful to protect student data. It is the law in most places, but it is also just the right thing to do. This Google unit gives us four different ways that we can keep track of student data safely and confidentially.

  • Bar charts built into Google Sheets can be used to represent student growth and make valuable comparisons to see what the student needs to work on.

Unit 9

  • Unit 9 covers smart searching, boosting student research skills, and using Chrome to explore the web with our class.

  • The three 'search smart' basics are choosing the right search terms, understanding search results, narrowing a search to get the best results possible.

  • It also teaches us about the rule of searching online 'Rule 3'. Rule 3 says "Encourage all students to compare three sources of information before coming to a conclusion on any given topic."

Unit 1o

  • Unit 10 is all about slides and making presentations more interactive. Having interactive slides is incredibly important, our students learn best when we are engaging them to the best of our ability.

  • Slides is a slideshow application that allows multiple people to collaborate on a slide deck at the same time

  • With Google Earth, teachers and students can explore the world and learn how complex ideas fit together. Google Earth is a simple and powerful tool which presents information ranging from natural sciences to social sciences, history, art, and engineering.

Unit 11

  • Unit 11 talks about YouTube. The powerful filters and search features allow teachers to find just the right video to meet their needs and engage students with content from creators around the world.

  • Most of the lesson explains the features of YouTube. It explains how YouTube is based on channels and how  you can subscribe to them. As you continue to subscribe to channels you are letting YouTube know what you like

  •  Every time you go to YouTube you will be greeted with videos and channels tailored to you based on your likes, watched videos, and channel subscriptions.

Unit 12

  • Unit 12 talks about Google Docs and Google Drive and how to use them to motivate group collaboration. By enforcing and practicing collaboration, we are preparing our students to be successful in their future.

  • Google Docs is such an important tool to use. When a student or group shares a Google Doc with a teacher, the teacher can look at the Doc and understand how it has evolved from early drafts or how peer reviews and comments were incorporated into the final product.

  •  Google tools are great for collaborating, but they are also very helpful in ensuring all students have a voice and that they stay organized as a group.

Unit 13

  • Unit 13 is all about teaching our students internet safety and privacy. There are large parts of the Internet that are completely safe and you can often wander freely without a worry. But there are other places that are much less secure. We need to teach students how to navigate safely.

  •  Taking a proactive stance on your digital footprint is an important thing to encourage in our students. The Internet is not a private space, so students should be aware that what they do online is permanent.

  • We need to teach our students how to deal with cyber bullies. We should teach them to not retaliate or respond. They need to document it, block the bully online, and report it to an adult.
